The Ripple Base is under construction at Burning Man Project’s Fly Ranch in Nevada, USA.
The Ripple Base…
A station for the regeneration of native biodiversity and ecological knowledge, The Ripple Base will be an engaging educational space for community gatherings, workshops, and projects. Ripple will act as a launch pad for ecological restoration.
Learn more about the design below:
The Ripple base sustains itself in an off-grid fashion with a backbone of shelter, water, energy, food, and regeneration technologies.
A composting toilet requiring no water nor electricity provides fertilizer to non-edible plants found in the restoration ecotone.
Invasive plant detritus is composted into soil after being collected by restoration crews at Fly Ranch.
The restoration ecotone offers habitat, pollen, and nourishment for native flora and fauna.
The permaculture gardens offer an approach to land management adapted to the Black Rock Desert ecosystem and provides edible, medicinal, and ceremonial plants.
All native plants are selected for their adaptability and localization to Fly Ranch. (Click photo expand).
Foraged native seeds replenish the seed bank, which allows for seed dissemination to locals and for restoration efforts at Fly Ranch.
A library inside the dome preserves important cultural and scientific information such as traditional ecological knowledge of the Great Basin region.
The seed bank and library are a dynamic bridge between the past, present, and future.
